Dear Writers,

With the arrival of 2024, let’s make a pact with one other: this is the year that each of us reaches the writing goal that’s in our sights.

All of us are at different points along the writing journey. Some of you are just beginning and want to dip your toe in the water and explore expression through creative writing. Perhaps you’re even a secret closet writer for a while now and you want to actually have an experienced reader look at your work. Make this the year to get guidance and encouragement to help you explore further.

I also know that many of you are further down the path. You’ve gained the experience and quietly worked the countless hours and you now find yourself on the cusp of an exciting but daunting realization. The words you’ve been stringing together, the sentences you’ve been conjuring, the chapters you’ve been weaving, are – dare you say it out loud – starting to look an awful lot like a book. A book you want to finish.

For me, this year’s writing goal is twofold. My promise to myself, (and to my Sweetwater writers!) is completing a book I’ve been working on for a long time as well as sharing it with the people who will help put it out into the world.

There. I’ve said my writing goal out loud. Now, I ask you to share your goal with me. And I want to help you get there. This is the year to do it. I know it. You know it. What are we waiting for? Let’s go.

Yours,

Joseph Boyden
